Results of radiation checks for rice in Fukushima 2013
Since 2012, all rice grown in Fukushima Prefecture has been checked for radiation.
The results can be shown at HP of Fukushima megumi anzen-taisaku kyougikai (https://fukumegu.org/ok/kome/) (hereafter referred to as "megumi" site). This site is updated everyday.
This blog summarizes the results of the "megumi" site.
Japanese version of this article is shown at http://tsukuba2011.blog60.fc2.com/blog-entry-731.html. Japanese version describes in detail. In English version only summary and graphs are shown.
In "megumi" site, two results are shown. All rice bags (30 kg in weight) are measured by automated measuring mashines. You can see Youtube video at Fukushima Pref. web site how fast rice bags is checked.
This automated measurement is a screening ("スクリーニング検査" in Japanese) and is aimed for picking up suspicious samples containing more than 100Bq/kg of radioactive cesium. This standard is shown at MHLW site. You can also check Basic Policies & Related Notifications at MHLW site.

In "megumi" site, as shown in the figure above, the summary of the screening test is shown in the right side (red box). The results are classified in ND(less than 25 Bq/kg), 25-50 Bq/kg, 51-75 Bq/kg and 76-100 Bq/kg. The sum ("計" in Japanese) is shown in the right.
Because of screening measurement, the results are not accurate but can be used for the detection of the samples which might contain high amount (more than 100Bq/kg) of radioactive cesium. If such samples are detected in this screening test, the samples are subjected to 2nd measurement ("詳細検査" in Japanese) using Ge spectrophotometer. This measurement is an accurate one.

The results of the 2nd measurement, as shown in the figure above, are shown in the right lower column (red box). The results of each 2nd measurement are shown in Fukushima Pref. web site (in Japanese) and MHLW site.

The sum of screening test and 2nd measurement is shown above in the left(red box). Hereafter this sum number is used as accumulated number.
Summary as of Oct 11, 2013 :
Total:3,233,808 samples
Today's addition on "megumi" Database:252,483 samples
Samples not ND:1,389(25-50Bq/kg:1361, 51-75Bq/kg:28)
2nd measurement(Ge spectrophotometer): 50
(less than 25Bq/kg:5, 25-50Bq/kg:0, 51-75Bq/kg:33, 76-100Bq/kg;10, more than 100Bq/kg:2)
Samples more than 100Bq/kg:2(Minami-souma City)
*This 2 samples are not on the market.
This year rice radiation checks began on August 22th. Because I checked "megumi" site everyday, I can show how the number of the measured rice bags increases this year.
The bar graph shows the number of samples which are not ND. You need to know that almost all samples are ND (less than 25Bq/kg: detection limit). Only about 0.1% of the samples are detected.

Next graph shows that how the number of measurement changes. In business days about 200,000 samples are measured in all Fukushima pref., but in weekends about 100,000 or less samples are measured.

Next table shows the breakdown list of each municipalities. The images are enlarged when clicked.
If you want to know where these cities are located, you can check at Fukushima Pref. Web site.

Last grpah is a comparison of the measurement between this year and last year. The all rice measurement was begun last year. I have all daily data of last year, so I can compare last year and this year. As you can see this year's proceeding is about one week ahead. This is maybe due to insufficient preparation for the measurement in last year.

* This article is a test article of English version. If there are many requests, I can enhance English pages. This blog also deals with the information of contaminated water of FDNPP. Any comment or request are welcomed. Thank you.
